Evelyn Monroe-Watts was born in Roosevelt City (Birmingham), Alabama on May 9, 1946 to the late Hershel and Henrietta Monroe. She took her first Journey to be with the Lord on July 14, 2017.
She was preceded in home going by her parents, Hershel and Henrietta Monroe, sisters Loretta Mayweather and Katie Monroe and nephew Lew Derrick Collins.
Evelyn was the third of five children. She graduated from Wenonah High School, earned her Nursing Degree from Bessemer Technical College, two Bachelor Degrees (double major) in Broadcasting and Journalism from Miles College and a Associates Degree from Georgia State. However, she choose a more family oriented career path and went back to a place she loved best, operating her family business “Monroe’s Tavern” for over 20 years bringing joy to the community serving food and drinks to those in the surrounding community.
Evelyn confessed Christ at an early age and attended Wells Chapel in Brighton, Alabama and in the latter part of her adult life, she joined Greater Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church.
Gone but never forgotten, Evelyn leaves to cherish her life memories to her husband of 18 years Decker Watts; two sons, Louis E. Monroe (Lori) of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Glenn Ray Threet of Birmingham, Alabama; two daughters, Desirée L. Anderson (Dana) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and Xersalyn T. Threet of Stone Mountain, Georgia; two brothers, Hershel Monroe Jr. (Pamela) of Trotwood, Ohio and Charles Monroe (Rosalind) of Dayton, Ohio; eleven grandchildren, Whitnie, Jeraad, Taylor, Talia, Alexis, DeJuan, Jahylin, Romerius, Mornay and Zion and her great-grandson Walter Lowe Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Evelyn lived her life fellowshipping and celebrating the gift of life with others. She was great wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
