Mildred Louise Lawson

Mildred Louise Oden Lawson, affectionately called "Lil Sista", was born on December 10, 1943 in Talladega County, Alabama, the eldest daughter of Mr. Roe C. Oden and Mrs. Annie McCord Oden. A product of Sylacauga City School System, Mildred graduated from East Highland High School.

Mildred confessed Christ at an early age and joined St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, Sylacauga. She continued her walk with the Lord. However, she moved her membership to the Shekinah Glory Tabernacle of Praise Church in Sylacauga.Throughout her life she was a faithful servant of God. She will forever be remembered as a woman dedicated to family and her community.

She was involved in many different community and civic activities to name a few: the Women’s Missionary Society, The Red Hatters as a Chilly Peppers, The Golden Key Senior Club.   

Mildred transitioned to her eternal life Thursday, October 15, 2020 at UAB Hospital, Birmingham, AL.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil Brown Lawson; one daughter, Felicia Annette Lawson; one son, Anthony Edgar Lawson; two sisters-in-law, Mary Florence Carpenter and Josephine Hale; three brothers-in-law, Samuel Carpenter, Jerry Hale and Donald Hale. 

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: one daughter, Victoria Lawson of Sylacauga, AL; two sons, Grelin Lawson and Demetris Lawson, both of Sylacauga, AL; six grandchildren: Nikese Coleman of Alabaster, AL, Quinese Coleman of Childersburg, AL, Sanmorteeno Battle of Birmingham, AL, Shawntia Lawson, Brianca Rowe, Bri'Asia Gaddis, Daniel Chambliss and Cornell Porter, all of Sylacauga, Al; one great grandchild, Marlee Coleman of Childersburg, AL; one sister, Annie Pearl (Bernard) Taylor of Pittsburgh PA; one daughter-in-law, Betty Ann Smith Lawson of Alexander City, AL; three sisters-in-law: Lillian (Larry) Hall of Orlando, FL, Delores Hale of Sylacauga, AL and Sadie Hale of Detroit, MI; four brothers-in-law: Jessie (Alma) Hale, Lawrence (Patricia) Hale, Benjamin Hale, all of Sylacauga, AL and Victor (Sylvia) Hale of Sycamore, AL; a special niece, Sandra Wilson, Sylacauga, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
